The Golden Raspberry Awards is an award presented to the worst in film. Originally founded in 1980 by  John Wilson, the annual Razzie Awards are traditionally held in LA the night before the Academy Awards ceremony.

So you might be wondering, what do bad movies and the people who celebrate them have to do with vintage clothing?  Well nothing, but if we threw in a little Razzie Award history and some of tonight’s winner I figured it could make an acceptable argument for an Odd Little Hippo blog.

So how did the Raspberry awards get started? Back in the good old days, John J.B. Wilson liked to hold potluck dinners on the night of the Academy Awards.  After the 53rd award show in 1981, Wilson supposedly invited friends over for a random award presentations in his living room. He handed out ballots to his guests and ordered them to vote on the worst in film that year. Afterwards, Wilson stood at a podium made of cardboard, decked out in a tacky tuxedo, and with a foam ball attached to a broomstick as a fake microphone.  He  announced Can’t Stop the Music as the first annual Razzie winner for worst film, this all according to Wikipedia.

This years that big “winner” was repeat offender, M. Night Shyamalan’s and his movie The Last Airbender. The Last Airbender also took home Razzies for; Worst Director ,Worst Picture, Worst Screenplay, Worst Eye-Gouging Mis-Use of 3-D, and Worst Supporting Actor Jackson Rathbone. Jackson Rathbone also appeared in  2010’s other most-RAZZIE-nominated  film of the year, Eclipse.

By far the second biggest winner of the evening was the sellouts of HBO and the fashion crazed zombies in the ultra chick flick, Sex and the City #2.  They ended up taking home awards of gold-spray-painted statuettes for Worst SequelWorst Screen Ensemble (for its entire cast) and Worst Actress (presented jointly to the film’s four principles, Sarah Jessica ParkerKim CattrallCynthia Nixon and Kristen Davis).

The most upsetting to me was worst actor, Ashton Kutcher, I’m not saying he is a great actor by any means but I love his silliness and have seen like every episode of The 70’s Show.  Not to mention the first week after moving into a new house in Venice they started taping for Valentine’s Day right across the street and I got to see his cute, silly ass in person, and hey, he was a nice guy. So was George Lopez.  They both have a special place in my heart.
